Maji Mazuri Water Project
In the rural village of Mugeta, Tanzania, it is common knowledge that hand-washing greatly reduces the chance of life-threatening infections.
But when it's a struggle to spare a single cup of water to drink each day, hand-washing just doesn't seem like the greatest priority...
Hope for Happiness has partnered with Mugeta Village Council and Mugeta Children School to bring the village safe and sustainable water facilities.
Project Goals:

Provide clean, potable water for the children and staff of Mugeta Children's School, and surrounding residents

Reduce the incidence of water-borne and related diseases such as cholera and malaria

Minimize the amount of time individuals must spend travelling and waiting to collect water each day

Ensure a steady source of water for HFH Sustainable Farm

Work in collaboration with the village council to estabilish a water management and conservation program to ensure continued utility of the water project for generations to come

WHERE WE ARE
June 2015: Mugeta villagers gathered at the local elementary school to brainstorm strategies for effective water management in anticipation of the Maji Mazuri Water Project.
August 2015: HFH funded an extensive hydrogeological survey to determine a suitable location for a deep water well. Much to the villager's joy, a perfect spot was found in a central location near the school and HFH Sustainable Farm land.
July 2016: After many months of fundraising, HFH took the plunge and scraped together the last few dollars needed to put the Maji Mazuri Clean Water Project into action. At a depth of 105m, we finally hit fresh underground water! By the end of August 2016, borehole development and installation of Mugeta's first clean and fresh water well was complete.
December 2017: High Output Water Pump & Storage Tank
This month HFH replaced the well's manual hand pump with a high output electric pump to increase efficiency of water collection and number of families served by the water project. We also installed a 5000L clean water storage tanks to reduce electrical usage from the pump.
Prior to the water project, local people collected drinking water from waterholes shared by animals.
